Edit a trade
The trade editor is where you capture everything about a trade — the numbers, the setup, your mindset, and the chart. The richer the detail you log, the more your Dashboard and Nova can tell you about your trading. Open any trade from the Trade Log to start editing.
How the editor is laid out
The editor has tabs down the left side and a main area on the right:
- Left tabs: Stats · Strategy · Media
- Main area: a Chart tab and a Notes tab
Stats tab
This is the core of the trade — the facts and figures. Fields include:
- Account — which trading account the trade belongs to.
- Symbol — the instrument traded.
- Date — the trade date.
- Side — Long or Short.
- Entry price / Exit price — where you got in and out.
- Entry time / Exit time — when you got in and out.
- Additional executions — log extra fills if you scaled in or out.
- Qty — your position size.
- PT/SL mode — how your profit target and stop loss are expressed: P&L $, Points, or Ticks.
- Stop loss — your stop level.
- Take profit — your target level.
- Setup / strategy — the setup or strategy you traded.
- Emotion — how you felt: Confident, Anxious, FOMO, Patient, Revenge, or Disciplined.
- Tags — labels for setups and mistakes (see Grade and tag trades).
- Mistake type — what (if anything) went wrong: None, FOMO Entry, Revenge Trade, Moved SL, Oversize, Early Exit, Late Entry, No Setup, or Other.
- Planned R:R — the risk-to-reward you planned before entering.
- Account % risked — how much of the account you put at risk.
- Fees / commission — costs for the trade, which feed your Net P&L.
💡 Tip: Logging your Emotion and Mistake type honestly is what makes your analytics genuinely useful — it's how you discover that, say, your FOMO entries are quietly draining your account.
Strategy tab
Here you pick a strategy for the trade and then check off its rules — the conditions that strategy is supposed to meet. This lets you measure how well you actually followed your plan, not just whether the trade won. Build and manage your strategies in the Strategy library.
Media tab
Attach screenshots of your charts and setups so your trade has visual context. See Attach media to a trade for formats and limits.
Chart tab (main area)
The Chart tab embeds a TradingView chart so you can study the instrument right inside the editor — handy for reviewing the move after the fact.
Notes tab (main area)
The Notes tab is a rich-text editor scoped to this trade. Write up your thinking: why you took it, how it played out, and what you'd do differently. These notes are searchable from the Trade Log, so you can find trades later by what you wrote.
